Holiday Korn with a Kick – Cooking with Pot Shots

One of the longest standing traditions for almost any holiday or sporting event, is the creation of traditional snacks and foods to compliment the festivities.  One of my favorite treats for the holidays and the College Football Bowl season, is homemade Caramel Corn (what we call Korn). It’s is easy to make, and is loaded with sweet goodness in every bite.

But, now with the advent of Wild West Pot Shots, almost every taste treat and festive goody can evolve into a treat with the bonus benefit of a Cannabis Kick!

Keep reading for my favorite Korn with Kick recipe!
In this case, I will be using one packet of the Wild West THC Pot Shots.
The packet I am using is 15mg of THC, which is perfect for a “gentle high” with three servings per batch.  So in short, to use a responsible measure of 5 mg per serving, the following recipe can be divided up into three different servings.  Be careful not to overindulge, as it can “harsh your holiday high.”

  • 1 cube of butter or margarine (I prefer margarine because it seems to bind to the popcorn better)
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 cup clear Corn Syrup (I use Karo)
  • 1/4 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 3 quarts of Air Popped Popcorn
  • One .18 g tube of THC Pot Shots
  • You will need a large mixing bowl, a large sauce pan and a cookie sheet.

As I said…the ingredients are super simple, with the only wrinkle being Air Popped popcorn. Oil popping just doesn’t work well…and the good news is, Air Poppers are dirt cheap almost anywhere that sells kitchen gadgets. (there are several on Amazon, for less than $25, and you will use it a ton once you try this recipe!).

Start by popping 3 quarts of air-popped popcorn, and put it into the large mixing bowl.

Next,  melt the butter and  bring to a gentle boil over high heat on the burner.
Once boiling, add the brown sugar, and corn syrup, stirring until it is melted together into an even brown mixture.
Bring to a boil, then REDUCE HEAT to medium, Add Pot Shot, and Cook for 5-7 minutes until mixture starts to darken around the edges, almost looking like it is burning.

When you see the edges beginning to darken, add the baking soda and stir the mixture until mixed (this should lighten the mixture a lot, making it an almost frothy consistency). Once mixed evenly, pour the entire mixture over the popcorn, and then stir vigorously until popcorn is completely coated with caramel.

Pour the caramel corn from the mixing bowl, and spread out over a cookie sheet to harden and cool. Let cool for 10-15 minutes, break apart when crisp.

Eat at will!

Warning…the only drawback to a treat this sweet and tasty, is that you will want to eat more and more as the cannabis kicks in. But, it is the kind of wonderful treat that is a self-contained cause and solution for the munchies!

Enjoy! And watch this blog for other great recipe ideas!
